Using VIA Data Query with SQL Management Studio

The following article will show you how to connect to VIA Data Query using Microsoft SQL Management Studio.

  • Open SQL Management Studio
  • Choose either of the following to connect to the database
    • To execute a query go to File > New > Database Engine Query
    • To connect with the Object Explorer go to View > Object Explorer then in the Connect drop down in the Object Explorer select Database Engine...
  • You should now see the Connect to Database Engine window
  • In the server name enter,1433
  • In the Authentication drop down select SQL Server Authentication
  • In the Login text box enter your login, this is available in the via portal under Activity > Data Query.
  • In the Password text box enter your password, this is available as above, if you haven't noted it down previously you will have to generate a new one.
  • If you want to tick Remember password. Your login window should look similar to the following:

  • Click Options >>
  • In the Connect to database text box enter ucportal_activity
  • Click Connect
  • You should now be connected to your activity database. The two available tables are as follows:
    • Calls - This table contains all call details for your organisation
    • Conferences - This table contains all of the conference details, call details for each conference are stored in the Calls table.
