Change Microsoft Office to Semi-Annual Channel

Change Microsoft Office to Semi-Annual Channel

Firstly, check what channel you're on by opening Outlook > File > Office Account:

Office C2R Updates 1

Once confirmed, switch to the Semi-annual channel by doing the following:

  1. Download the latest version of the ODT (setup.exe) from the Microsoft Download Center.
  2. Create a configuration XML file that specifies the appropriate channel name, such as the following update.xml file.
  3. Ensure that you input your correct Edition (either 32 or 64) and ensure that the Channel is Deferred.
    <Configuration>
    <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="Deferred">
    <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
    <Language ID="en-us" />
    </Product>
    <Product ID="VisioProRetail">
    <Language ID="en-us" />
    </Product>
    </Add>
    </Configuration>
  4. From an elevated command prompt, switch to the folder location where setup.exe resides, and then run the following command:
    setup.exe /configure update.xml
  5. This can take up 30 minutes To complete. If you are downgrading Channels from Monthly to Semi-Annual, this may end up with a larger than normal download of Office. If the above command does not work, you will need to fully uninstall & reinstall Office.

    Once completed, confirm your channel by opening Outlook > File > Office Account:

    Office C2R Updates 5
